15" Marine Bridge Wing Monitor

It is fairly well accepted if you want to use your LCD TFT screen outdoors you will have to choose between either having excellent image quality on your screen or having the best protection that you need against the elements to keep your equipment safe.

The marine industry is reliant on only the best quality equipment available to keep their crew and craft safe in demanding environmental conditions and this is why KME have developed Heliobond. Utilising transflective technology to erradicate glare from the sun and enable near perfect daylight viewing, KME have provided a solution to protecting the screen from the elements without losing any of the viewing quality and reducing the power consumption to improve the reliability.

Transflective technology enables KME’s 15” LCD monitor to combine the illumination characteristics of both transmissive and reflective technologies so that it works under any lighting condition, from complete darkness to bright sunlight but what makes KME’s Heliobond special is the unique optically bonded gel layer that enables the technology to be used outdoors.

Previous attempts to protect transflective LCD screens against outside elements have failed due to counteractive light reflections, but KME have developed a gel layer that bonds the protective glass to the transflective display, thus reducing reflection and enabling the optical technology to work at its best. The optically bonded glass produces near perfect quality by matching the refractive index between the glass and panel which means that the screen is still effective but protected to be used in the demanding marine elements.

Traditionally to use LCD monitors outdoors, the answer pointed to increasing the standard backlight brightness. This creates an increase in power and cost of usage and when enabled in a sealed ‘weathertight’ case increases the operating temperature, resulting in low reliability and as such, higher maintenance costs.

Equivalent to 1800cd/m 2 Heliobond uses the suns power to produce additional brightness without increasing the power requirement and therefore minimising heat dissipation. Robustly manufactured with IP65 sealing, the marine grade stainless steel unit has a dual shell, sealed inner core with an outer sunshield/visor to prevent overheating of the monitor by the sun. It also benefits from passive cooling for the sealed core unit which eliminates condensation and salt crystal formation.

The 15” Bridge Wing monitor is IP65 sealed with operating temperatures from 0 to 55 deg C and designed to fit to the following standards: Emission EN50081 & EN50011; Immunity EN50082 & IEC1000; Safety EN60950; Protection IEC529; Vibration IEC60068 (RMS 1g); Shock IEC60068 (25g, 6ms) and Resistance to Chemicals DIN 42 115 part 2 - 24hrs.

Established in 1976, KME design and manufacture a complete range of approved LCD-TFT and CRT monitors for the worldwide market. With a reputation built on the production of solid and reliable products for demanding environmental conditions, KME have developed an expanding range of standard and custom LCD-TFT monitors and flat-panel PC’s that are ideal for industrial, marine, transport and military markets.
