KME Monitors the Rail Industry

Every year, over 1,800 pedestrians and motorists are reported to have misused a Level Crossing. With line speeds up to 125mph, trains cannot stop quickly and tragically some people are injured or killed primarily because they have made an error, deliberately made a violation or have become complacent about using the crossing. With over 7,600 Level Crossings both on public and private land that cut across the UK railway network the need for a reliable monitoring system is clear, which is why monitor manufacturer, KME, have developed the Level Crossing Monitor.

Initially to be used in a Network Rail project in Portsmouth the monitors have been designed predominantly as a surveillance tool. The 8.4” LCD TFT cube works as a direct replacement for existing monochrome CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors which are becoming obsolete and difficult to replace. The plug and play units can quickly and simply replace existing CRT monitors or be used in new installations.

In addition to the level crossing monitor, KME have partnered with Unipart Rail (formerly NRS), the UK’s leading railway logistics, materials and solutions provider, to jointly develop monitors for the UK rail industry. The new range of colour screen, flat panel monitors will be manufactured by KME and distributed through Unipart Rail to the UK rail industry. The monitors are suitable for a number of rail displays such as; public information screens for platform and on-train applications, control room 19” and 21” screens and there is also a line of LCD replacements for the obsolete CRT monitors. (Visit www.natrail.com/TFT for further information.)

A selection of the monitors offer KME’s latest innovation Heliobond. Heliobond is an optically bonded glass system which enables transflective LCD screens to be used outdoors or in areas where a more rugged style is necessary. The transflective technology enables the LCD screen to work in direct sunlight by combining transmissive and reflective technologies to provide near perfect daylight viewing whilst the Heliobond technology protects it from external influences.

Established in 1976, KME design and manufacture a complete range of approved LCD-TFT monitors for the worldwide market. With a reputation built on the production of solid and reliable products for demanding environmental conditions, KME have developed an expanding range of standard and custom LCD-TFT monitors and flat-panel PC’s that are ideal for industrial, marine, transport and military markets.
